Last week we introduced our new coach and today we will release the 3 goalkeepers of our #TeamSIS, a holder and two that will seat on the bench.
Are you ready to play ball SISter?
SIS believes that for a team to win, it should, at least, not suffer a goal. Of course you can win even if you suffered goals, but you have to agree that any score to zero, makes the game much easier to win.
So on that logic, having a good goalkeeper is crucial for a team that wants to win.
If the goalkeeper was not one of the first positions to be invented in soccer, can you imagine what the scores of the those games were? 234 to 314!
There are reports of a sport very similar to soccer in the Feudalism (medieval Europe) but the Romans also played Harpastum, which was played with a small ball on a rectangular field with opposing teams. The object was to get the ball over the other team’s boundary lines, using trickery and hands if necessary.
The games were very popular. Although it was a bit more violent than we see nowadays. The Soule or Harpastum was practiced by soldiers who were divided into two teams, attackers and defenders.
It was played through the streets across fields, hedges, fences, and streams where almost anything was allowed. They could use punches, kicks, creeps and other violent blows. There are reports that show the death of some players during the match, once nearly two-thirds of them had to be hospitalized after a fifty-minute game.
Consisting of 27 men on each side, each team had different functions such as: runners, forwards, punters and net keepers. This net keeper is nowadays called goalkeeper.
The goalkeeper was once called the net keeper?
Here in Brazil we had other names like archer or “gate man“, and in Portugal they were called quíper which resembles English: goal keeper. Goalkeepers are athletes present in football, futsal, handball, hockey and so on.
As Brazil is still known as the Soccer Country, we can not go on about goalkeepers without acknowledging one of our greatest.
Gylmar dos Santos Neves (Gilmar)
He was the first great goalkeeper to win with the Brazilian National Team.
Revealed in Jabaquara, and consecrated in Corinthians and Santos, Gilmar defended the Brazilian National Team in 94 opportunities, being world champion in 1958/1962, besides having participated in 4 other South American championships and the 1966 World Cup.
Curiosity about Gilmar:
According to former radio editors, one time in the quarterfinals of the Brazilian national team in Sweden in 58, goalkeeper Gilmar came up from the locker room to the field with defender D’Sordi, talking about how that game was decisive for Brazil and how they would even die for the team; his friend D’Sordi replied: If so, we will die together. Prophecy or not, coincidence or destiny, both died on the same day: august/25/2013. Transcript of an informative column from the late Delphin Ferreira da Rocha Netto.
Having said that, we now go to the chosen ones. SISters, ARE YOU READY?
FIRST GOALKEEPER OF #TEAMSIS
The Net Keeper. The Wall. The Ball Catcher. The Defender. The MAIN ONE!!!!
Marc-André ter Stegen
Birthday: Abril 30th 1992. (HUM! Do we know someone who has the same birthday?)
- Hard worker
- Gives body and soul
- Stable, does not change his mind easily
Nationality: German from Mönchengladbach
Current team: Barcelona
Status: married to Daniela Jehle
Ter Stegen and Dani Jehle have been together for five years, ever since he was playing in Borussia Monchengladbach.
It was a simple and discreet ceremony near the Catalan capital. Ter Stegen announced that he would marry his girlfriend during a live broadcast on Facebook and she posted it on her IG.
SIS believes they can teach a couple people on how to do that, right SISters?
“In terms of soccer, I want to grow individually and collectively fight for all the titles. I think we can move forward in La Liga. In my private life, my girlfriend and I are going to get married in the summer. It’s a private matter, but I would like to say it because I love her very much and it is very important for us.”
Is anybody still alive?
Let’s go now to the reasons SIS and Guardiola chose Stegen for our main goalkeeper.
Ter Stegen started his career at Borussia Mönchengladbach. In the first half of the 2010-2011 season, he was established as the star (still on the bench) of his team, although the team itself was not well and to try to save it, they changed the coach.
The results improved but the main goalkeeper, Logan Bailly, was still not shinning even achieving some victories.
The fans realized Ter Stegen’s talent, even though he was on the bench, and the new coach received a lot of requests to put the young prodigy into the main team.
Favre ended up losing his temper with Bailly, thank God, and on April 10th, 2011, he relegated him to the bench in favor of having Stegen for the game against FC Köln.
The young German did not disappoint, and the defense began to strengthen.
He kept his place on the team for the remainder of the season, avoiding relegation through the playoffs. Ter Stegen was nominated as the first goalkeeper when Bailly was loaned to the Swiss team Neuchâtel Xamax and the number 1 shirt was left for him.
During the transfer window in the summer, Bayern Munich bought Manuel Neuer. Neuer made his debut against Ter Stegen’s Mönchengladbach at the Allianz Arena.
The match was not as experts predicted, and Stegen who was inspired, took advantage of the Neuer’s mistake, and sentenced Bayern to a 1-0 defeat. After this game, Borussia Mönchengladbach followed displaying Ter Stegen.
On May 19th, 2014, Ter Stegen was announced as the new goalkeeper of the Spanish club Barcelona, after the departures of Víctor Valdés and José Manuel Pinto. Three days later, he signed a five-year contract until June 2019.
The transfer fee was € 12 million (£ 9.7 million) and the buy-out clause was set at € 80 million (£ 63.6 million).
SIS believes we need to be born again and return as a soccer team owner.
FREE SPACE FOR INTERESTING TRIVIA FROM SIS:
A buyout clause or release clause refers to, in a contract, a clause that imposes on a soccer club wishing to acquire a player under contract to pay money, with the substantial bid of the clause money, to the original club to acquire the club’s player
Days after signing with Barcelona, Ter Stegen was revealed at the Camp Nou stadium …
… and soon dismissed any comparison with Valdés, insisting …
“I am who I am and that’s it.”
FIRST GOALKEEPER ON THE BENCH:
The second. The substitute. The next one. The 1o on the Bench!
Birthday: July 8th 1990
- Close to family
- Sensitive and shy
- You can count in all times
- Has few and true friends (usually childhood ones)
- Prefers to stay home and doesn’t move a lot
- Very creative
Current team: Paris Saint German
Trapp is German, plays in Paris but has a very interesting relationship with Brazil!
His girlfriend is the world-renowned top model Izabel Goulart and they have been together for over a year.
It was on a daily basis with Isabel and his teammates that the goalkeeper learned to speak Portuguese without the need for lessons.
The club has Neymar, Dani Alves, Thiago Silva, Marquinhos and Thiago Motta. If he does not come out fluent em Portuguese, sambando and drinking caipirinha, then he has learned nothing from these Brazilian players.
Trapp has visited cities like Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo and says he loves Brazil.
“Yes, I really like Brazil. We have a lot of Brazilian players here. It’s a pleasure to speak Portuguese with them. But I have to say: it’s very difficult to speak Portuguese.”
Trapp is a key player of the PSG team. He began the season as Alphonse Areola’s reserve, but regained the position of holder and today is absolute in the goal of the Parisian capital.

Alisson Ramses Becker
Birthday: October 2nd, 1992
- Good character
Current team: Roma – Italy
Alisson, at age 22, married Natália Loewe, in June 2015. It was an intimate ceremony held at the family home in Esteio, Rio Grande do Sul.
The actual marriage was celebrated by a Squire, afterwards they received a blessing from a pastor and later a charming cocktail party. Only the couple’s family and very close friends were present at the celebration.
SIS was not invited. #sad.
He enrolled in the soccer school of the Internacional’s team at the age of eight. Didn’t take long for him to replace the main goalkeeper, Dida, on the 28th match against Fluminense (a team from Rio de Janeiro), in 2014.
“I’m colorado (Internacional Team) by heart. I grew up in here. I went to the team soccer school and my brother was there too. I would come practice with my parents. I was already in Beira-Rio, I was seven years old, I spent most of my life inside. It’s something that makes me and my family really happy.”
Alisson joined the Brazilian National team in 2015, where he made his debut on October 13th, 2015, in the match against Venezuela for the 2018 FIFA World Cup ™ qualifiers. He took Jefferson’s place because of his height and ability with his feet. He was also called back for games against Argentina and Peru.
On October 28th, 2015 Alisson was surveyed by six top-level clubs in Europe, according to his manager.
In 2016, he was confirmed as a new reinforcement of Roma. The Italian team paid about € 7.5 million (about $ 110.5 million) to the the Internacional Team.
SISters, these are our three goalkeepers. We believe that with these three, it will be hard to loose from 7 goals again! What do you think??
Stegen, Trapp, Alisson
Next week we will reveal our defenders!!!!
Who would you like to see on our defense?
